The letter R in three different stages of the physarium simulation.

36 Days of Type 2023

36 Days of Type is that time of the year for me to try new tools or styles. For the 2023 edition, I decided to simulate the propagation of slime mold to grow my letters in a digital petri dish.

Emme

Emme, the result of the workshop, is the beginning of a translation-style typeface with humanist influences. For the presentation, I decided to use quirky German words to show off the style of the typeface. Not only are these words helpful in showing the individual characteristics of the letters, but because of the nongerman speaking audience of the class, the other participants could concentrate on the look of the typeface without getting distracted by the meanings of the words.

SmartGrids

SmartGrids is a small application I wrote in Python and recently published on GitHub. It allows you to quickly create and preview different typographic rasters based on several inputs. While this was nothing impossible before, it automates and speeds up the non-creative math part tremendously.
